Final Convoy 2009

So, we managed to create the biggest traffic jam in the world...hehe...very chaotic...and eventually made it to the Ministry of Tourism where the Lanka Challenge 09 came to an end (at least the driving bit). Our three-wheeler companions finally got a chance to rest and recover from the abuse they went through over the last 10 days...it was very hard for the guys to let go..the bonding was magical.

Later on we made our way to the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, where the awards ceremony took place. The Sri Lankan Tourism Board and Ministry of Tourism kindly took care of the arrangements for the ceremony, which we turned into a small miracle. Our event partners; Sri Lankan Airlines, David Pieris Motor Company and Colombo Spirit, joined us in presenting the awards.

We started of with the Wacky Best Dressed Award, which went to the always funny and enthusiastic Team Tukxedo...these guys were endless entertainmnent...

Social & Go Green! Awards

Soon after it was time to give out our two meaningful distinctions; the Social and Go Green! awards. It was a true honour giving the Social award to Paul and Kerry, the amazing couple who absorbed every last drop of the destination and its people, whilst putting a huge smile on all our faces. The Go Green! award was handed over to Abbie and Emma, the Gypsys' that CARE. Throughout the event, they kept, collected and handed over any litter produced and also kept track of their petrol consumption.

The Countdown! Final Standings

Over the last 10 days our participants embarked in the adventure of a life time which tested their resourcefulness, endurance and navigational ability to the limit. Along the way they discovered the unique beauty of this contrasting island, interacted with the friendliest of local people (always possible to crack a smile :) and shared inspirational moments with the 50 colourful personalities who joined us on this sublime journey. They all came for different reasons but left with one common result.

Moving on to the competitive side...the moment of truth.

Juan & Julian

Thanks for such a great time! Also wanted to mention a big Thank You to The General, Raja, Arjan and the mechanics, whom without I don't think we would have made it back to Colombo. Can't wait for the next installment!!
