Lanka Challenge - Meaningful Travel


Since 2009, LARGE minority has teamed up with different charities and organizations based in Sri Lanka and raised a total of USD 15,883.00 for different Meaningful Travel initiatives.

During the last edition of the Lanka Challenge we supported; two local schools, a conservation project and  local families. On this occasion we contributed USD 3,120.00 from participant entry fees. As always, our participants got a chance to visit the projects and witness the impact and significance of their contributions whilst interacting with the local community.

Lanka Challenge 2011 Meaningful Travel Summary:

USD 300.00 For the Red Cross Society of Sri Lanka – funding for the Lahugala school which will be utilized to purchase resources for tupgrading their facilities.
USD 1,500.00 For the Red Cross Society of Sri Lanka - funding for the kekaku primary school, Ampara District. These funds will be utilized to build a new playground for the school.
USD 1,000.00 For the LORRIS organization – to fund ongoing conservation and environmental research as well as the tree planting enviromental campaign and activity at the Sita Eliya Gemunu Vidalaya School.
USD   200.00 For a local family - donation for the Jayatilaka family to purchase some building materials to extend their home.
USD 120.00 For a donation towards the Buddhist Temple in Sigiriya.

On this occasion various teams also raised additional funds for different charities of their own in and out of Sri Lanka. The total amount collected came to over USD 15,000.00. We would like to thank teams Desmond Tuk Tuk (The Paige Project , PFSA  and Ithenbu Lethu), On Your Marks (Bluebell Childs Hospice), Gin'ill Fix It (Save the Children), One Love - Two Stroke (Luhagala School), for their amazing achievement.

As a supplement to the funds that will be donated from registration fees we encourage all teams to raise a minimum of USD 500.00 which can be donated directly to any charity of your choice. Although we would like you to contribute any additional funds to our charities,  you are obviously free to donate your money to a charity/good cause in any country/organisation around the world. If this the case we would appreciate to know which organisations/charities are benefiting from your good will, only to document the impact such events have.
